Jane Basden is a GP in Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains who decided on the spur of the moment to respond to a call-out for help in outback South Australia. Coober Pedy is an opal mining town near the NT border and has a small hospital which also serves as the local nursing home, and this is where Jane ended up. She describes her experiences on her three week stint as an outback locum.
