Liberal party revolt, but where now for progress on climate change?
It’s been a day of high drama in Canberra today as former Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews lead the charge for a change of leadership in the Liberal party, after Malcolm Turnbull bullied his way into a deal with the ALP over the Emissions Trading Scheme. While the vote was 48 – 35 in favour of keeping Turnbull as leader, it was still clear that there are a lot of people unhappy with him. So was the vote a message that he needs to change his style or was it a warning about his position that climate change is an issue that needs addressing – or both? And what does the Liberal party revolt mean for the future of the climate change debate in Australia?
