What do your text messaging habits say about who you are? and how important is text messaging to you? Texting is changing patterns of behaviour and the use of language at all levels of society. …and while many may claim that they couldn’t live without their mobile phones, deaf people have a particular relationship with this new technology. Making phone calls when you’re deaf has never been easy… tele-typewriters and the national relay service have enabled some communication but this is often seen as dreary and cumbersome. But a new report published in the Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education, has revealed that it is the deaf and hearing impaired who have become the most passionate users of SMS. She-Fah Szetu spoke to the author of the report, Mary Power, Associate Professor of Communication and Psychology and Head of Communication and Media Studies at Bond University.
