Last night a forum was organised by the Sydney Alliance that featured Rev. Willie Bennett who was amongst community organisers in Houston Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans La.   He explained how churches and community organisations have a 60 city network in the US, that instigated ongoing assistance to displaced people after Katrina struck.  The Sydney Alliance organisers are aware of the effects of climate change in creating more frequent violent climate events and are using the experience of Reverend Bennett to forge an alliance of community organisations, unions and church groups to prepare for disasters.
