Freedom of speech has been cited as the reason for making amendments to the Racial Discrimination Act, amendments that would remove legal protections in the case of racial abuse and humiliation. Free speech advocate Professor Brian Martin says the law is a clumsy instrument to a deal with racist abuse and would like to see more community education instead of more law.
