Dr. Mohammed Haneef arrested by Federal Police over connections to parties involved in the Glasgow and London Terror attacks last week, has been held for in detention for 10 days without charge. Federal Police have been using ‘dead periods’ where the defendant is not integrated, to ensure Dr Haneef can be detained beyond the legislated 24 period. This has been to the anguish of the Law Council of Australia; Owen Teakle asked their President Tim Bugg what he thought of the idea of ‘dead periods.’
