This month will mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina which laid waste to the city of New Orleans. In the destruction, the city was gripped by a wave of looting and anarchy that came to be known as America’s ante-911. As the city descended into chaos, an unknown number of people were killed by police in the days after the storm. Investigative reporters have documented at least six cases in which police used lethal force against suspected looters, and eleven serving or former officers have so far been charged.
