Lava gets closer to tiny Pahoa, while Jan keeps cutting hair

With the recent change in direction of the Kilauea Volcano lava flow in Hawaii, several villages and towns are under threat. A road to Pahoa (pop. 950) was cut off earlier today, with many people now evacuating their homes. 500 yards away near the main street, the 78 year old proprietor of Jan’s Barber and Beauty shop, Jan Ikeda, says that she started working there with her grandfather 65 years ago and she is not leaving unless she sees the lava at the top of the street.
