Larsen C ice shelf sheds a trillion-tonne ice berg

A trillion-tonne iceberg has broken free from a crack in the Larsen C ice shelf in the West Antarctic. The crack had been growing since 2010,  leaving the berg hanging by a thread last month before finally breaking off yesterday. One of the largest ever recorded, the ice berg reduces the size of Larsen C by 12 percent.
