High hopes for positive spinoffs from a landmark agreement between Lane Cove Council on Sydney’s North Shore – and the Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council. The deal recognises the Land Council as custodians of Aboriginal Land, cultural sites and landscapes in the Land Cove area – seen by Mayor Ian Longbottom as a demonstration of their commitment to greater understanding of Aboriginal issues through communication and consultation. It also lays the groundwork for joint projects and employment and tourism opportunities – and reconciliation. Metro Land Council Chair Rob Welsh has paid tribute to the leadership and goodwill of the council in signing the agreement.
