Of all the casualties of war, there can be few as undeserving as the victims of landmines. Lingering long after their original purpose has passed, these weapons are indiscriminate, and the majority of the injuries and deaths they cause are to civilians struggling to rebuild their lives in war ravaged areas. This week is Landmine Action Week. Organised by Australian Network of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and AUSTCARE, it aims to raise awareness of landmine issues and encourage the government to continue to support mine action. James Fletcher spoke to Mike Smith, CEO of AUSTCARE, and John Rodsted, official photographer of the Campaign to Ban Landmines.
