The European Union has announced first-time plans to give one billion dollars in relief aid to Greece and other member states to help them handle the refugee crisis. Thousands of asylum seekers are currently stranded on the border between Greece and Macedonia with few necessary supplies, but the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Christos Stylianides, has said the plan means the EU will be able to bring emergency aid much faster than was previously possible. For the first time ever, the aid plan will also be coordinated with the UN and other aid agencies.
