As the national debate continues on greenhouse gas emissions, one sector is being ignored: land clearing. Australia’s capacity to meet its Kyoto target, despite not having signed up for the protocol, is contingent on a reduction in emissions caused by land clearing. The NSW Farmer’s Federation says the NSW Government’s Woody Vegetation Change 2004-2006 Report shows environmentalists have been using incorrect data to increase land clearing rates, however the Wilderness Society says the NSW Government figures are inaccurate.
