The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) reports that up to 8 million hectares of land could be cleared under new biodiversity laws proposed by the New South Wales government.

Experts say this could be bad news for native fauna and flora across the state including koalas, whose populations are already in decline in large part due to loss of habitat.

The laws currently being debated in Parliament are attempting to strike a balance between farmers’ needs and broader pressures on biodiversity.
