Today is National Threatened Species Day, 70 years since the last Tassie Tiger died in the Hobart Zoo. There are currently more than 600 Australian plants and animals facing extinction with 65 on the critical list. In the past it’s been landclearing, feral animals and weeds that have been the villains. Now according to the World Wildlife Fund for Nature climate change is the major threat. The Fund’s Australian program leader Dr Nicola Markus says the fund is putting out a plea for Australians to save energy in any way they can for the sake of the future of our flora and fauna.
