The Australian Government has thought of a new way to supply work to struggling indigenous communities. Using money from the national infrastructure fund they have offered to supply work building roads, rail and port facilities. The proposal has the full support of former ALP president Warren Mundine. But critics say that this kind of low skilled, unsupported work is only a band aid solution, that doesn’t resolve long term unemployment. One agency that does attempt to resolve the problem is the Aboriginal Employment Strategy, an indigenous managed not for profit organisation.
