Kendrick Lamar has become the first hip-hop artist to take home a Pulitzer Prize for music. The win is already being viewed as a defining moment for the culture. For many aspiring artists it can be seen as a confirmation that hip hop is a true poetic form, that can be as insightful and poignant as any other medium.

Veronika Aleshina and Nick Parmeter spoke with Indigenous rapper Neil Harris aka DRMNG NOW, and Dr. Alexander Crooke from Melbourne University, to find out how artists like Kendrick Lamar help drive positive change in embattled communities.
