According to a survey by The Australia Institute non-government organisations are fearful of speaking out in case they lose funding or are blacklisted. The survey was designed to test the perception that this government in particular is intolerant to criticism. Survey author and Australia Institute head Clive Hamilton says the muzzling of dissent in this way is a threat to democracy.
