Justice group launches prison reform campaign
The Community Justice Coalition is sending out questionnaires to politicians in an attempt to shed light on the flawed NSW prison system and fuel more public debate around the issue. The 30 page survey will be sent out to all political parties and members of the parliament. The justice group hopes to publish all the responses by political leaders to heighten public scrutiny of different corrections policies before the upcoming NSW State election in March 2011. The questionnaire specifically targets areas the group says are in need of reform, such as rehabilitation, high recidivism rates, and the incarceration of juveniles, women and Aboriginal people.
