Justice for Indigenous Australians
On the 7th of June 2003, Indigenous teenager Errol Wyles junior was killed after being run over by Queensland man Scott Hasenkamp, who had been drinking at a party nearby where Errol and his friends were riding their bikes. While Scott has served some time in prison for the act, three years on, his family firmly believes that justice has not been served in the case ? they allege that police mishandling of the case saw the accused serve a far too a leinent sentence, in the end just two and a half months in jail. Now a law firm has taken up the challenge of re-opening the case, and in the process has inspired the formation of new group aimed at advancing equality under the law for indigenous Australians across the country. This report behinds with Errol Wyles Senior, explaining how his family reacted to the news that their son had been heard about the tragedy.
