Julian Assange is facing the Old Bailey Central Criminal Court in London for the resumption of his US extradition hearing.

The proceedings began with an attempt by Assange’s lawyers to defer the hearing, as new charges have recently been added by the US authorities. Assange’s lawyers claim have not had time to formulate an adequate response.

This request was denied and the hearing will proceed. Assange faces 18 charges under the US Espionage Act relating to the 2010 release of a massive cache of  secret files detailing aspects of US military campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq.
