Another journalist in Sri Lanka was assaulted in a botched abduction attempt in the capital of Colombo last night. Namal Perera, the deputy head of advocacy at the Sri Lanka Press Institute was assaulted when his car stopped at a military check point. He’s the latest victim in a number of attacks on journalist reporting on Sri Lanka’s bloody civil war. In 2007, Sri Lanka was ranked 109 out of 167 countries on the world’s press freedom list. Last year alone, six journalists were killed and many more were abducted, feared dead.
