Journalists caught in web of metadata retention

The government’s controversial metadata retention bill, which would force communications companies to retain its customer’s metadata for two years, could pass through parliament by the end of next week. Labor and the government have come to an agreement which could see the bill passed. The agreement aims to protect journalists, however many politicians and journalists see the provision as inadequate.
