This morning Australian Federal Police officers arrested and charged five people for allegedly swindling and defrauding $1.1 million from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) under the guise of offering certified services for disabled clients and their carers.

This is the result of a joint six month investigation by the NDIS Fraud Taskforce, which claims that three falsely registered NDIS service providers exploited, threatened and intimidated clients who were on plans, thus receiving more than $2.7 million in fraudulent payments since December 2017.

But can the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) do more to address growing concerns that the scheme is vulnerable to future scams ostracised by organised criminal syndicates/networks?
