From the Backblocks to the Frontlines is a new exhibition that celebrates the contribution of Italian Migrants in South West Sydney. The Australia that greeted the first arrivals in the 1880’s was very different from the Australia of today, as Italians found themselves literally in the backblocks of Australian society. Researcher Diane Powell says that newer migrant groups can “gain hope from seeing how things started and where they’ve ended up.” Stephanie Raison was at the Exhibition and spoke to Curator and Heritage Officer at CoAsIt Linda Nellor, Co Curator and Researcher Diane Powell, Layout Designer Emilia Toia and Nazzarino Torresan who is in the exhibition.
