The Israeli constructed security barrier, separating Palestinian territories and Israel has been the centre of International attention for the past 18 months. Opinions are divided on whether Israel has the right to build the wall, which will be four-hundred and twenty-five miles long at completion, in order to defend itself from terrorist attacks. Some say it should be dismantled due to the serious impact it’s having on the Palestinian community. The International Court of Justice in The Hague last week ruled against the construction of the wall, saying it breaches international law, and has called on Israel to tear it down. Ariel Sharon has since denounced this ruling and ordered construction of the wall to continue. Hagar Cohen spoke to Steven Freeland, Senior Lecturer in International Law at the University of Western Sydney about the court’s decision and it’s impact on Israel.
