The recent political instability in Egypt has led to speculation over what a possible post-Mubarak Egyptian state will look like – nowhere more so than in Israel, which counts the current Egyptian President as a rare friend in the region. Last week, as part of the Israeli Government’s containment strategy, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered construction on the Israeli-Egyptian border barrier to be sped up. But it’s just part of a broader dialogue in Israel over its level of defence spending and overall security strategy.
