The Israeli military has opened fire on a ship which was trying to deliver aid to the Gaza strip. There are conflicting reports of casualties but some say 10 people have been killed and up to 30 injured. The Gaza Freedom flotilla is a group of eight ships, carrying 800 people including peace activists, MPs from 15 countries and 20 reporters. Those behind the project say it was designed to deliver aid to Palestinians and break the Israeli Government’s blockade of the region. Israel said from the outset that the fleet was provocative and that it would be refused entry to the area. Organisers of the protest fleet say Israel has killed unarmed activists.
