The National Alliance for Action on Alcohol has called for an overhaul of Australia’s alcohol tax regime. The group is pushing for a volumetric tax system based on alcohol content, to replace the current scheme which applies different rates for different alcoholic products. Under the proposed tax scheme, full-strength beer and wine would be more expensive. The NAAA hopes the strategy will reduce alcohol related deaths and injuries in Australia. Alex Vaughan spoke with Todd Harper, co-convenor of the NAAA.
