South Australia may become just the second state to compensate victims of the Stolen Generation, with a bill implementing the scheme set to pass parliament next week. Tasmania was the first state to offer compensation for victims, after establishing a similar scheme in 2006. The Tasmanian scheme paid compensation to more than a hundred victims, up to $40,000 each. Applicants will be able to apply for compensation without the need for legal action, avoiding long and distressing legal battles. But is money really the solution?
