Ten years after the introduction of digital radio in Europe, Australia is only seven months away from having its own system. “Commercial Radio Australia” says this will be one of the most significant milestones in Australian Broadcasting history. But overseas, digital radio has had very limited success. This week digital stations in the United States announced a loss of hundreds of millions of dollars, and the biggest commercial radio operator in the United Kingdom has started to close down its digital stations. So does this mean the digital radio in Australia is destined to fail, before it even begins?
