An article published today claims 3.5 billion dollars has been wasted on irrigation schemes designed to return water to the Murray Darling Basin.

An Australian National University study claims the Federal Government has vastly overstated the amount of water being returned to the river system

The water was intended to be returned to the environment and study authors say the reduced amount may be connected to ecological issues such as recent fish kills in the Darling.
