Climate change and reducing oil usage are often on the environmental agenda but the damage caused by warfare is not. As the body count rises on all sides of war the environmental destruction is often forgotten. In the case of Iraq getting any information out of the country is virtually impossible and there is little known about the effect the war will have on Iraq’s environment. A group of Greenpeace scientists and campaigners visited Iraq in 2003 to assess the war’s environmental impact. Greenpeace Australia Pacific’s Disarmament Campaigner Kieran Longridge discussed the effects of warfare on Iraq’s environment.
