90 lashes and a year in jail – that’s the sentence that was handed down to Iranian actress Marzeih Vafa Mer yesterday, for appearing in a film about censorship of art and music in Iran. The film ‘My Tehran for Sale’ was largely funded by the Australian Film Corporation and the Adelaide Film Festival, and depicts the actress with a shaved head, and no hijab. The film’s Australian executives said the sentence is bound to result in international condemnation.
