Hundreds of thousands of people protested around the nation today, against the Howard governments industrial relations bill. The ACTU says 200 thousand took over the streets in melbourne alone with a huge rally in federation square. In Sydney protestors converged on both Martin Place and Belmore park near central station . Despite the government $55 million dollar advertising campaign, the union movement had no trouble getting support today for its grass roots campaign. ACTU secretary Greg Combet says even if the senate passes the bill, the union campaign will continue until the next election. The Wire’s Alma Mistry was at the Sydney rally and prepared this report.
