International Workers Memorial Day
There are 7000 work related deaths each year in Australia and many of these are due to corporate neglect. The 28th of April is the International Workers Memorial day. Throughout Australia’s Capitals memorial services have marked the deaths of Australians killed in the workplace. Unions also organized protests with the goal of ending the endemic neglect of Occupational Health and Safety in Australia. In Particular, advocacy groups are calling for the abolition of the Australian Building and Construction Commission. This Commission was set up to mitigate union power in workplaces and has consequently delayed the amelioration of unsafe work practices.
