International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate gender equality and the social, cultural and other achievements of women.
But many women across Australia locked up in detention centres are unlikely to be enjoying the day.
The Australian Border Force statistics for January 2017, has recorded 97 women in immigration detention centres across or near Australia.
Natasha Blucher, Advocacy Manager for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre says there are many problems affecting women in detention and says they should be protected from further suffering.
