The rules a around water policy in Australia are having some unintended consequences.   The news this week that a Canadian pension fund owns the largest share of water rights in the Murray Darling Basin has highlighted that international agribusinesses are  hungry for  water anywhere. Irrigation subsidies are also being used to open up more irrigation areas at the expense of local farmers.
