As dawn broke in Iraq today, citizens of the war-torn nation woke to news of yet another bomb attack by insurgents, this time on one of Shiite Islam’s holiest mosques. Renowned Arabic journalist, Zaki Chehab, who was the first journalist to speak to members of the insurgency, is in Australia this week to promote his new book, “Iraq Ablaze – Inside the Insurgency”. He spoke to Catherine Graue about his time in Iraq and his first meeting with insurgents and their motives.
