Inquiry needed over deaths of intellectually disabled people

On Monday experts will call for a national inquiry into deaths of intellectually disabled people, off the back of research showing intellectually disabled people die from unnecessary causes at a rate of more than twice the general population.

Researchers’ argue doctors misdiagnose patients’ disabilities as the cause of death, which conceals the real problems leading to the general poor life expectancy of intellectually disabled people.
