In prisons across Victoria there is concern about cleaning duties being done by inmates.
The corrections department has told prisoner advocates that they aren’t cleaning high risk areas, but there has been very little transparency around the details of what tasks they are doing, how they have been trained, and what protective equipment is being made available to them.
But the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service says keeping low-risk prisoners in jail during in a pandemic is irresponsible and dangerous.
