Influential tent embassy activist passes away

Many campaigners for indigenous sovereignty are today mourning the death of the influential activist Isabel Coe, who passed away on Saturday. Coe was heavily involved in supporting the Canberra tent embassy after it was established in 1972. Campaigners say that Isabel Coe was instrumental in ensuring that the tent embassy was reinvigorated in the later years of the Hawke government when it was rumoured that the site would be shut down.
