Industrial manslaughter laws fail to catch companies

The death of a truckdriver in vehicle without brakes has led to calls for new criminal penalties for industrial manslaughter. The SA Greens will reintroduce a private members bill to parliament.

The ACT has such legislation as does the UK but other attempts to introduce it in Australia have failed. Part of the problem is the difficulty in applying penalties such as gaol terms to a corporate entity.
