‘Irrational Demands for customary rights to land.’ That’s a statement from a power point presentation prepared by Indonesian special forces unit Kopassus – probably in 2009. This document forms one of many that have found their way into the hands of the West Papua Project at Sydney University’s Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies. They outline the psychological tactics and violence used against West Papuans who want independence from Indonesian rule.
