The late Fred Hollows has been well celebrated over the years for his successful program to treat eye disease in indigenous Australia But he wasn’t the only hero. The Trachoma program in the 70’s was as much to do with the aboriginal people who worked on it as it was with the experts . In a book released today five of those people tell their stories. Jilpia Jones and Dr Gordon Briscoe say the secret of the program was the involvement of indigenous workers, and its a pity is is no longer funded as trachoma is more of a problem than ever.
