Disillusioned by a lack of consultation over recent government interventions, female elders in remote aboriginal communities are calling for more support. The Kapululangu Aboriginal Women’s Association in Balgo WA are one such group. They’ve called a women’s law camp to help people understand their rights about protection against violence and children’s abuse. The three-day camp begins tomorrow. Annie Hastwell speaks to women’s coordinator Dr Zohl de Ishtar from the Australian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies on what the camp hopes to achieve and the difficulties of making progress when funds are running dry.
