Indigenous uni students face higher rates of financial stress

A new report says the level of financial stress is greater for Indigenous university students than non-Indigenous students. Universities Australia’s longitudinal study of student finances in 2012 found that most students, or more than two thirds worry about their finances.

But Indigenous students face particular challenges.Only a third of Indigenous students received financial support from their parents compared to half of their non-Indigenous counterparts.
