The project was created with recommendations from the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Suicide Prevention Evaluation Project, an independently run project funded by the Australian Government through the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

An Indigenous suicide ‘critical response’ project was launched in Western Australia today. The project works directly with families and people who have been affected by suicide. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples in Australian. On average, 100 Indigenous Australians will end their life through suicide each year. Suicide rates are particularly high in some remote communities in Western Australia, the area targeted in this project.
