As army, police and health authorities descend this week on indigenous communities around Australia many are feeling fearful or angry. One woman who is particularly incensed is Professor Judy Atkinson – she’s an indigenous woman whose life work has been focused on the issue of violence trauma and healing and who has worked with many communities on their problems. She is disappointed with the top-down nature of the government’s plan and says change needs to begin with a child-centred approach to the problem.
