A new twenty-four hour, seven days a week turtle rehabilitation centre has opened in Cape York, in collaboration with indigenous rangers and traditional owners. There was a reported increase of sick and injured animals in the aftermath of cyclones Yasi and Larry. The centre will rescue and treat turtles that have been left stranded and have sustained attacks from predators or been hit by boats.
